Tampa, FL – Tampa used car dealership Car Credit’s “Corazones de Car Credit” charitable organization has selected the Tampa Hispanic Bar Association as its monthly winner for February 2019. Corazones de Car Credit, a program which recognizes Tampa Bay area charitable organizations for helping those newly immigrated to the country, awarded the Tampa Hispanic Bar Association $2000.
The Tampa Hispanic Bar Association is the largest organization in Tampa for Hispanic Lawyers. They many benefits for members, including the opportunity to make a difference not only in the Tampa Bay area but also across the state. Their charitable arm has been identifying needy Hispanic students for various types of scholarships at both the college and law school levels.
As the The Tampa Hispanic Bar Association has been growing, their goal is to expand beyond scholarships to provide other types of aid and to provide free services to Spanish speaking people representing themselves in family law cases (divorce, trying to get custody of a child, etc).
“Many people representing themselves in family court are doing so because they cannot afford an attorney,” said Andres N. Oliveros, P.A., president of the THBA. “All forms available online to help aid the family court process are only offered in English, so many Tampa-area Hispanics are unable to read the forms. THBA attorneys meet once a month downtown to help Spanish speakers involved in family court cases understand the online forms.”
TBHA Organization members also participate in “Read to Dream,” reading to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders in low-performing elementary schools.
“These are all full-time lawyers who are devoting their time, for free, to the greater cause served by THBA,” said Oliveros.
