Car Credit Tampa, a recognized used car dealership renowned for its superior quality standards, has been operating in the Tampa Bay Area for over 25 years. At Car Credit Tampa, we’re passionate about our customers and strive to provide them with high-quality vehicles while delivering excellent customer service. But we also love to give back to our community through multiple initiatives. One of them is our monthly ‘’Corazones de Car Credit’’ charity event where we award a prize to a Tampa Bay area charity or individual for their invaluable work in supporting newly arrived migrants in need. Prizes include $2,000 in cash or items of that value to assist the winner in their goals.

The winner of the ‘’Corazones de Car Credit’’ award this month is the outstanding charity organization The Kind Mouse.

In 2012, Gina Wilkins, founder, and CEO of The Kind Mouse noticed that the economic downturn had been taking a massive toll on low-income families in Pinellas county. As she witnessed the extent of chronic childhood hunger in the community, she decided to start a food donation program led by the firm belief that hardworking individuals and families should never go hungry. And The Kind Mouse was born.

As a result, The Kind Mouse has been providing food to families in need in Pinellas County for over eight years to ensure kids are never hungry. More precisely, the organization provides children with Mouse Nibbles sacks destined to be consumed on weekends, holidays, and over the summer when school is not in session and they can’t benefit from school meals.

While the issue is not exclusive to race, 35% of the children that The Kind Mouse serves are Hispanic. And unfortunately, the pandemic seems to have impacted people of color disproportionately. That’s why, during these difficult times, the organization decided to partner with the Intercultural Advocacy Institute in Clearwater and the Institute’s Hispanic Outreach Center to provide holiday family dinner boxes and toys to heavily affected Hispanic children and families.

Besides, the need for food distribution in the greater Pinellas community dramatically increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting The Kind Mouse to ramp up its food distribution. The charity reports feeding up to 3400 children a week at the height of the crisis, when schools were closed.

For their crucial role and incredible efforts in child hunger relief in Pinellas County during these challenging times, The Kind Mouse was awarded the $2,000 grant. ‘’We are very grateful for the $2,000 grant from Car Credit. That funding will provide 330 children with a supply of weekend food to sustain them while they do not have access to school meals,’’ says Gina Wilkins.

The charity is committed to training and developing the next generation of volunteers to carry on their critical mission. They’re also always in need of donations, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like to get involved.
